The London Dragon Boat Race is another famous Chinese celebration of London after the, Chinese New Year Celebration. 2010 will see 14th celebration of this event, in London. It will be a thrilling entertainment, savored with Chinese feasts and 40 boats on a pit against each other, with 17 rowers in each boat. It takes a Herculean effort to take the boat forth at the fastest pace. These teams have to follow a set of rules charted by the organizers. This event is accompanied by performances and the entertainment programs to keep the viewers hooked through the race.
The Dragon Race 2010
The dragon race will be sweeping the waters of 200 meters water course. The boats completing the race in minimum time will be seen in the top three selections, with the trophy being swept by the one with best performance. The race will begin at 10 am, with the final round taking place at 4:30. Trophies will be given away by 5pm in the evening.
With about 40 teams participating on dragon boats, the gaiety of this event will include a thrill springing from the traditional celebration of China. There will be lion dance on an electrifying drum music, Kung Fu performances, a display and vending off, of the Chinese crafts, arts, games and prizes. You will also get a touch of culture in the Chinese face Paintings and a bouncing castle.
Story Behind the Celebration
This celebration is seen as the beginning of the monsoon, which is expected to bring a boost in the crop yield. The dragon is the most revered zodiac sign, representing a downpour of rain. This day is also a commemoration of the patriot Statesman Qu Yuan’s demise. Both the reasons make it an adulation of the day.
